VGA Cables 1.5M from $44.95 ( Male to Male)
Short for "Video Graphics Adapter", VGA comprises a full analogue RGB signal. The most common application for VGA is a computer monitor, although many LCD and plasma displays as well as projectors also make use of this connector, as it saves valuable space over the 5x RCA jack alternative. VGA uses a 15 pin 'DB' (HD-15) type plug, with three rows of 5 pins. Only ten of the pins are used, being for red, green, blue and their respective grounds, as well as horizontal and vertical sync, and two extra ground pins.

Component cable 1.5m from $119.95
Component Video has fast become the most popular option for high performance video connectivity. It offers a noticably better result than S-Video in that it produces a greater range of colors with more accuracy, resulting in a better tonal range across the board. Image dynamics are generally also improved with more detail in shadow areas, making those dark scenes all the more involved! Of course the quality of the Component Video transmission, like any connection, can be either impaired or improved by the appropriate choice of interconnect.
13.5mm Outer diameter triple coaxial interconnect
24AWG stranded high purity (99.9998%) OFC cores
Cable conductor resistance 0.098 Ohms/m @20C
75ohm Nitrogen Injected Polyethylene Dielectrics results in
low capacitance of only 58.85 pF/m (17.94 pF/ft) @1kHz
Inductance 0.399 uH/m (0.122 uH/ft) @1kHz
100% Double shield - mylar coated foil + tight OFC braid
Y Cr Cb legs each color coded for easy identification
Max:
1.5 M = $119.95
3.0 M = $139.95
5.0 M = $179.95

S-Video 1.5 M from $44.95
S-Video has long been the cable of choice for 'hi-band' video sources, but is now being overtaken by the likes of Component Video and the newer full digital alternatives. The "S" in S-video stands for Separate, not Super as is often thought. 'Separate Video' was the high quality connectivity choice on early hi-band video, of which Super VHS became the dominant alternative, hence the connection with the word Super.
S-Video is comprised of two channels - "Y" for Luminance - the black and white image; and "C" for Chrominance - the color information. The four pins in an S-Video plug/socket are for the positives and respective negatives of these two components. S-Video is a big step up from Composite video because it keeps these vital elements separate (hence the name). Information can be smeared in Composite Video as these components are merged into one cable, causing some interferences which result in a reduction of sharpness and also color bleeding. S-Video on the other hand keeps the image sharp and clear.
8mm Outer diameter twin coaxial interconnect
28 AWG stranded OFC cores
Nitrogen injected polyethylene dielectrics
100% double shielding for pure image integrity
Two separate lengths internally for true independant Y-C
MAX:
1.5 M = $44.95
3 M = $69.95
5 M = $89.95
10 M = $139.95
15 M = $169.95

Composite cable 3 M from $32.00
Composite video has been the most used of video connections for the past 20 years or more. It's the one type of connection that we really don't get asked anything technical about, because it's really quite simple! It gets it's name as it's a composite, or combination, of all of the elements that go into making up a video signal, all into one solitary carrier. It's a step down from s-video, and quite noticably so. When all of the info is merged together, there tends to be some cross-interference which results in some color bleeding and a loss of some sharpness.
This being said, the quality of the cable will still dictate just how much loss is suffered from the step down. A poor cable will exaggerate the losses, so if you need to use composite, make it a good one. Remember that every type of AV connection will benefit from higher quality interconnects, regardless of format.
7mm Outer diameter coaxial interconnect
21 AWG stranded OFC core
100% double shielding for pure image integrity
3 M = $32.00

It was like walking through a time warp. Anyone who came to the Reference
Audio Visual audio showcase night held at the Taipan recently, would have
sworn it was like a trip down memory lane, back to the eighties. Why here
was an appreciative (and very large) audience clamouring to hear more
high-end sound topped off with a top end turntable. The size of the audience
on all three nights at the Taipan would have put a smile on the face of
audio veterans. People who swore audio's glory days were over. Think again.
The evenings proved a couple of things: two-channel audio is back and
there's a huge untapped number of devotees just waiting for Melbourne stores
to get passionate about great sound like once they used to.
The number of people turning up on the three nights were double the number
of the previous year. And as things now stand there's every reason to look
forward to the numbers leaping ahead for next year's audio nights.
But the thing that pleased me most was the number of audio civilans who
boosted the numbers on the nights. Ask Alex, Steve or Australia's number one
audio veteran, Charles (owner of the Taipan) what audio most needs and
he'lll tell you ""new faces'.
Judging by the number of newbies that came, we can look forward to what
should be a continuing celebration of audio's golden years.
Please book me a seat at the Taipan for next year's audio showcase.
