It was like walking through a time warp. Anyone who came to the Reference
Audio Visual audio showcase night held at the Taipan recently, would have
sworn it was like a trip down memory lane, back to the eighties. Why here
was an appreciative (and very large) audience clamouring to hear more
high-end sound topped off with a top end turntable. The size of the audience
on all three nights at the Taipan would have put a smile on the face of
audio veterans. People who swore audio's glory days were over. Think again.
The evenings proved a couple of things: two-channel audio is back and
there's a huge untapped number of devotees just waiting for Melbourne stores
to get passionate about great sound like once they used to.
The number of people turning up on the three nights were double the number
of the previous year. And as things now stand there's every reason to look
forward to the numbers leaping ahead for next year's audio nights.
But the thing that pleased me most was the number of audio civilans who
boosted the numbers on the nights. Ask Alex, Steve or Australia's number one
audio veteran, Charles (owner of the Taipan) what audio most needs and
he'lll tell you ""new faces'.
Judging by the number of newbies that came, we can look forward to what
should be a continuing celebration of audio's golden years.
Please book me a seat at the Taipan for next year's audio showcase.
